Obtaining a CCW permit in Northern CA is much easier than many bay area and Southern CA counties, which
outright refuse to issue CCW permits. It is each Sheriff's policy in the State of CA, which dictates whether you
are able to receive a CCW, or not. The State of CA requires that each applicant shall have good cause. Many
Sheriff's in CA have determined that "good cause" shall be personal protection or self defense. This is the case
with Placer County Sheriff Devon Bell, although each and every individual applicant has plenty of "good cause"
for a CCW permit. You will not be forced through hoops of demonstrating good cause or just cause for your
Placer County CCW permit!
You must schedule an appointment directly with the Placer County Sheriff Department, CCW division for your
interview and backgrouind check. You shall demonstrate good moral character, prove that you are an outstanding
resident of Placer County, and be prepared to undergo a thorough and complete background check.
If you have no background concerns or issues, it is recommended that you take the training course, prior
to your interview with the Placer County Sheriff's Department. If you have background concerns (criminal
history, bad driving record, etc.), you should go through your interview prior to spending money on a CCW training
course.
Upon approval of your Placer County CCW application, you will be required to complete at least an 8
hour CCW training (if you have not done so yet), including demonstrating the ability to safely (and
proficiently) handle and use the handguns (up to 3) to be on your permit, and you must "qualify" with each
weapon to be on your permit, by specific serial number. The gun(s) must be registered to you or a spouse or
registered domestic partner. The calibers allowed on a Placer County CCW permit are from 25 - 45 caliber, and the
weapon must not be a hide-away derringer style. Visit the Placer County Sheriff website (link below) for more
information on CCW issuance and criteria.
Do yourself a huge favor, and take the BEST training course available, and do not allow any shortcuts when
taking this training. In CA, unfortunately, it is a "privilege" and not a right to be issued a CCW. The best
CCW training is very important, and selecting the best instructor should be a very important factor, when you
will be carrying a concealed weapon everyday, or just at certain times. Regardless of the number of days, or how
long the training is, or how far away the training center is, it is very crucial to know the laws of the state of
CA, and particularly knowing the laws when it comes down to self defense, and where you are not allowed to carry
weapons, etc., rather than just demonstrating that you can shoot a gun at a range.
At BEST Handgun Training, you will walk away with a tremendous amount of knowledge, and you will be well
prepared to carry concealed weapons. Check out our reviews on Facebook!
